Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men

Yesterday was New Parent Orientation night at Alex new school. It was very thoughtfully prepared and informative and the PTSO did an awesome job. We ate dinner and were able to see plenty of friends from Alex's preschool and Tball teams that will be joining him in kindergarten. We were given a tour of the school to which the only points of interest for Alex were the library, computer lab, and the kindergarten playground. While in the library Alex picked out "his" bean bag for the year and after the librarian gave her detailed speech of the check out process and AR reading program she asked for questions. The first and most important question for Alex was to know A. can he access the brand new Mac computers whenever he would like, and B. Can he check out a book today as he found one he would like. All to which were answered with a delicate no. After touring the school and going over his day and what to expect we walked home during this walk Alex became introspective and decided to talk about his plans for his future.

"You know mom after college I am going to become a police officer that discovers things."
Me: "So you want to become a detective?"
"No I want to be a police officer that discovers things like hidden treasure and new adventures"
Me: "Ok...where would you live?"
"In an apartment with a kitchen and a bed"
Me: "Yes but where? In Arizona, New York City?"
"Mom your not listening I am going to become a police officer that discovers things and lives in an apartment with a kitchen and POSSIBLY a computer....that is my plan"

I feel that we need talk about possibly shooting a little higher or becoming more detailed in his life plans. But at least I am hopeful to know that that he plans to attend college.
